The study of the brain and its functions is at the heart of communication sciences and its disorders. It is with this understanding that we sought to create this textbook and study materials. We, as humans, have brains that are uniquely complex in structure and, most important, in function. The human brain has evolved to work in complex networks that entrain multiple areas of the brain, giving it a capacity for problem-solving that outstrips our nearest evolutionary neighbors.
