Ophthalmology: A Pocket Textbook Atlas, 2nd edition

This is an excellent example of a comprehensive ophthalmology book that combines basic knowledge, examination methods, pathology and treatment options in pocket form. It is well structured throughout its 19 chapters and provides a reference section for further reading and appendices with topical ophthalmic preparations, ocular and systemic side effects, optical coherence tomography images and typical visual field defects. The beautiful illustrations and concise description of surgical procedures stand out in each chapter. The chapters summarise current knowledge very well. They are organised on a common pattern, making it easy to find specific information and anticipate how each chapter will develop. Matters of particular importance in relation to the ocular condition are highlighted by red vertical bars as take-home messages for each chapter. The book lives up to the promise made on the cover page: ‘All in all, a concise, thorough and up-to-date introduction to the field of ophthalmology’.
